Finland’s currency is Euro. The price level in Finland like in other Nordic countries is pretty high but you can save money by choosing the right places to shop because it isn’t that expensive everywhere.

You can use the most common credit cards in the stores (example VISA, VISA Electron, Master Card, Diners Club)

In Finland - for an example - a liter of milk costs from 0,9  to 1 Euro in a store, a pizza from 5 to 10 Euros in a pizzeria, coffee about 3-5  Euros per half a kilo.

Banks in Joensuu

Joensuu has a few banks but changing money may not be easy. Often you have to be a member of the bank to change currency and the money needs to be pre-ordered so it’s best to change currency in Helsinki or in the country you’re coming from.

For example in Sampo bank you can change currency if you pre-order it. The order needs to be made about 2 days before You need the money. You can pay your order through online bank service or in the bank, when you’re getting your money.

MONEY TRANSFER WITH WESTERN UNION

You can also use Wester Union service (somebody can send you money to Joensuu). The office for Western Union in Joensuu is located next to railwaystation (Matkahuolto).
